And unlike Mario, which made an awkward transition to mobile this time last year, an emphasis on time and the accumulation of random cosmetic goods make it exceedingly well geared to a free-to-play structure. It's a relaxed little title that's done well on mobile devices ever since its first release back in 2001. You essentially move to a town, take out a loan, buy a house and make friends while fishing, digging for fossils and just generally hanging out. Animal Crossing, like many Nintendo properties, appeals to a near-unlimited age range, and it's easy to imagine passing this little title around and maybe getting some younger cousins or curious aunts and uncles on board.įor those that don't know, Animal Crossing is a wacky life simulator, and its influence can be clearly seen in many of the free-to-play games that kicked off this current revolution: think Zynga titles like Farmville and Yoville. Not only is it a perfect time for some relaxed mobile gaming, it's a perfect time for some inter-generational viral marketing.
Holidays involve long hours whiling away the time with family via Netflix, puzzles, or whatever your family's group entertainment of choice is.
It's good timing, at least for the United States.
