The Kobo has a Linux OS and I could open up the back and download direct onto the SD card through a card reader. I have never bought a ebook from Kobo via wifi. Reading these free files is what I particularly want the Kobo for. I am pretty sure, but cannot remember for sure, that I did this on the Linux machine with Calibre, not on the Mac. I think it WAS recognised on the Linux machine as I had three ePUB files on it (before clearing them off with resetting). Calibre 6.14.1 seems to start up slower for me on Windows 10 (ditto for opening the viewer or editor).
